


Hernandez is a known, prolific offender, currently out on bond for motor vehicle theft. Detectives were able to identify the suspect as 30-year-old Yerandy Hernandez. The Falcon Property Crimes Unit detectives worked tirelessly and put in many hours combing through reports, interviewing witnesses and victims, and conducting surveillance late into the night and early mornings to identify the suspect. During this spree, the suspect eluded police in stolen vehicles on multiple occasions, driving recklessly, endangering other drivers. The suspect focused on newer, higher priced vehicles such as Mercedes and BMWs. This individual obtained a firearm during one of the burglaries as well as equipment such as a tow trailer in order to assist in stealing vehicles from all areas of the city. The individual committed several burglaries and numerous motor vehicle thefts. In the last few weeks, the city of Colorado Springs has been troubled by an individual on a crime spree. At this time there is no threat to the public or high school. Palmer High School was temporarily placed on lock down while officers investigated the incident. There were no other injuries as a result of this incident. The suspect shot the victim in the process and was able to recover his bike.

Officers learned that the victim had stolen the suspect’s bike while it was parked at the 7-11. Officers also located a shooting suspect on scene and was later taken into custody. He was later transported to the hospital for his injuries. Once officers arrived on scene, they located the shooting victim that sustained a single gunshot wound. Officers responded in an emergent manner to the area. Another call was received of a shooting victim in the same area. The reporting party indicated a shooting near the 7-11 at Platte Ave. 7:14 AM, the Colorado Springs Police Dept communications center received a 911 call regarding a shooting.
